A charity that helps people with learning disabilities is looking for new volunteers.

Macclesfield’s Speaking Up Speaking Out’s (SUSO) Parachute project is a drop-in for adults with disabilities and additional needs.

The project - which is based at SUSO’s base on Park Lane in Macclesfield - has become a popular community venue that offers a friendly, welcoming environment for its users.

As well as computers, it offers a variety of activities including art, workshops, photography, literacy, music, chat, and lots of tea and biscuits, as well as the chance to catch up with old and meet new friends.

Karen Keen, the charity’s project manager, said: “Our volunteers are vital in enabling us to do that - offer a welcoming place for anyone that might come by. We have a fantastic, friendly team of volunteers with a variety of backgrounds but their main qualification is a sense of humour, patience and a willingness to try new things.

“SUSO Parachute is expanding the services it offers and has recruited a friendship coordinator who will be helping people to make friends, to do more social activities and to be more involved in what goes on in and around the town.

“To make the new project the success we want it to be, we would like more volunteers to join our ‘A-Team’.”

If you would like to take part in a whole range of social activities, from walks, trips to the cinema and theatre visits, pub meals, concerts, sports, to running a Treacle Market stall, and helping SUSO Parachute’s dropper-inners be involved in all those activities, please call Karen, Clare or Helen on 01625 424717 or email maccsuso@btinternet.com.
