The next generation of rugby players focused on a non-competitive version of the game to raise money for charity.

Members of the South East Cheshire Rugbytots, which has sessions in Macclesfield and Poynton, helped raise £2,358 for Wooden Spoon, a charity which supports disadvantaged and disabled children.

Among them they scored and amazing 697 tries, passed the ball 10,732 times and kicked 828 balls over the rugby posts.

Alick Willis owner of Rugbytots SE Cheshire, which also runs groups in Wilmslow and Congleton, said: “What a fantastic achievement by our amazing Rugbytots and parents.

“It was obvious that our target of £600 was going to be smashed in the first two days.

“The children loved doing the challenges and the parents had lots of fun too.

“The great thing with Wooden Spoon is that all the money raised will be spent locally for disadvantaged and disabled children and we are looking forward to seeing where our money raised will be spent.”

Andrew ‘Arctic Fox’ Walker, a Wilmslow RUFC first team player, also attended the session to give some coaching and congratulate the young players.
