A choir that has been part of the town for 85 years will celebrate with a rousing concert.

During its time, Macclesfield Oriana Choir has won at major music festivals and a cot in Macclesfield Infirmary was dedicated to them during the Second World War, as a thank you for their monthly concerts.

Their conductor Keith Yearsley MBE is now in his 57th year with the choir.

He said: “It’s a significant event - we’re the longest serving choir in Macclesfield. I would encourage everyone to come along and see us in action.”

The celebration concert will take place on at 7.30pm at the Macclesfield Methodist Church on Saturday, 28 November.

The programme consists of Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass and selected items from Parts One and Two from Haydn’s oratorio ‘The Creation’.

The three soloists will be soprano Teng Xiang Ting, tenor Mathew Palfreyman and bass Terence Ayabara,

Andy Donaldson will provide the accompaniment. Tickets cost £10 from Cherry Blossom Bakery, Churchside, from any member of the Oriana, or by ringing 01625 424215. A celebratory dinner will be held on Friday, December 4.
