DOUGAL Hare has lived in the borough for ten years, the last eight in central Macclesfield. He is a clinical psychologist working in the NHS. Dougal has been involved in the Green movement for over 30 years. In the last two elections, Dougal got 24-26% of the votes in Macclesfield Central.

Dougal says: "As a Green Councillor for Macclesfield Town ward, I would work for a Green Town Centre, encouraging local shops and sustainable businesses and demanding the highest environmental standards in the new town centre development. I would press for joined-up public transport, with affordable bus and train networks and safe cycling routes. I would seek to defend Macclesfield Hospital and oppose the creeping privatisation of the NHS. I would oppose closure of any school that is an important community focus.

"We need quality local government, not government by unelected quangos. Macclesfield needs its own town council."
