Macclesfield residents raised their coffee cups to Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday as part of the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Volunteers from Reach Out And Recover (ROAR), a charity working with recovering addicts, raised more than £100 at their event at St George’s Church, attended by Macclesfield Central Ward Councillor Beverley Dooley.

Victoria Lowe, ROAR volunteer, said: “We raised a fantastic total of £133.97 selling coffee and cakes baked by our service users, supporters and friends. We also had a baked or faked game with blindfolds to guess which was which. A fun morning was had by all.”

Catering and Hospitality students and staff at Macclesfield College also raised £101.43 with cakes and coffee in the college’s Silk Room Restaurant and Ten Alps Publishing raised £110.

Householders also did their bit, with Natalie O’Brien from Upton Priory raising £97.67 at her coffee morning.

Hundreds of thousands of the events took place across the UK, with Macmillan estimating more than 5 million cups of coffee drunk and 12 million slices of cake consumed.
