A mystery man who has held a series of protests in Macclesfield town centre has been unmasked.

For the last six weeks a colourful character has been turning heads by parading the streets wearing grey overalls and a Cyberman mask, and a Dalek costume made from a compost bin.

His activities prompted calls to the Express and speculation on social media as to who he was.

Now we can unmask the mystery man as 47-year-old Rob Foxton.

While Rob’s actions have brought smiles to the faces of commuters and shoppers, his actions are prompted by a serious protest against Cheshire Police.

Rob, of Sherwood Road, Macclesfield, is unhappy about the conclusion of a complaint he made to Cheshire Police’s professional standards department.

He said: “Almost two years ago for the good of the community I offered to help the police anonymously.

“However, the way officers handled the case I felt resulted in me being identified to the offender.

“I complained to Cheshire Police’s professional standards department regrading six aspects of the case and all but one were dismissed.

“I was also denied the right of appeal.

“I didn’t receive an apology so decided to take a stand.”

Unemployed Rob has protested in the streets every day since January 25 but now plans to get on with his life.

He said: “I started with holding some billboards up outside the town hall to get my point across but then decided it would more on an impact if I wore ridiculous outfits.

“People have stopped to take my photo and I have been able to share my story.

“This whole process has caused me a great deal of stress.

“The reaction I have got from people has been wonderful and really lifted up my spirits. I think I’ve made my point.”

Chief Inspector Chris Warren said: “Cheshire Police Professional Standards Department received a complaint from a member of the public in relation to the execution of a search warrant.

“Of a number of allegations one was upheld, with regard to the use of a Police vehicle.

“The complainant lodged an appeal against the outcome and this was not upheld.”
