Pupils who are doing their bit to ensure children across the globe should be give the chance to attend school have taken their campaign to parliament.
The students at Puss Bank School in Macclesfield make an annual trip to the Houses of Parliament where they meet Macclesfield MP David Rutley.
But this time the pupils took the opportunity to encourage him to back the ‘Send My Friend To School’ campaign, a national campaign which wants to ensure quality education is available for all children.
The campaign is encouraging children across the UK to add their voice, with over 12,000 messages submitted so far, ahead of a United Nations meeting taking place in September.
Mr Rutley met with the pupils for a question and answer session and was presented with letters the pupils from years three and four had written in support of the campaign.
Speaking after the session, Mr Rutley said: “I was delighted to be able to meet Puss Bank School pupils in Parliament.
“The children told me that they had had a great time in London, and I am very pleased that they have taken part in the ‘Send My Friend To School’ campaign.
“Education should be an opportunity for everyone globally, and I shall be writing to the Prime Minister, and the International Development Secretary, Justine Greening, respectively, with the pupils’ messages of support for the campaign. I look forward to making them aware of the pupils’ support for this important issue.” The group were also given a tour, arranged by the Parliamentary Education Service.
