A group of youngsters are holding a family fun day in aid of a charity helping people with autism.

Thirteen members of the National Citizens Service (NCS), a government-funded scheme supporting social action among young people, will host the day to raise funds for Space4Autism, based on Lowe Street in Macclesfield.

The group chose the charity as one of its members George Ventris, 16, who has autism, uses its services.

Fundraiser Jodie Sanders, 16, who is hoping to go to Macclesfield College to study Business in September, said: “The day is a huge deal for us as Space4Autism is a place where George can socialise with others with the condition. People there use each other as a ‘wall’ – if they can’t do something, others will support them. It’s a small organisation and we thought the day would be a way to get it noticed for the great work it does.”

Jodie, from Sherwood Road, added: “We want to raise as much as possible but if we raised £1,000 I’d be over the moon!”

The fun day is on Friday, July 22, from 4pm to 8pm at the Masonic Hall and features local bands, games and a bouncy castle. Entry is £1.
