A deaf club celebrated its 35th birthday with an special choir performance.

Macclesfield Deaf Club members and volunteers gathered at the Pack Horse Social and Bowling Club on Abbey Road and were joined by the Dee Sign Choir.

The choir performed a number of popular songs using British Sign Language set to music.

MP for Macclesfield David Rutley also attended the party, organised by Judith Kidd, club chairperson and Ruth James, treasurer.

Speaking after the event, David said: “It was a pleasure to celebrate this impressive milestone for the Deaf Club.

“I was particularly moved by the Dee Sign Choir, whose performance was a particular highlight.

“This important anniversary for the club is a testament to the great work done by its volunteers and I’d like to thank Judith, Ruth and the team for all their efforts.”

The club has met at the Mayfield Centre and the Macclesfield Disability Information Bureau in the past and now meets in the Macclesfield offices of the Deafness Support Network on Bridge Street.
