Gale-force winds hammered the borough last night blowing over several trees.

Police received reports a large branch had been blown down close to Lyme Park in Disley on the A6 at 2.23am.

A tree was reported lying on Foden Lane in Alderley Edge at 11.43pm on November 11.

And another tree was uprooted and blown over by the hammering winds on Hough Lane in Wilmslow, close to the mini-roundabout.

Cheshire East Council said workers removed six branches from Macclesfield roads this morning but no major trees were blown over. However, a small tree fell victim to the wind on Macclesfield Road in Kettleshulme.

Much of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland was hit by the gusts which reached speeds of up to 80mph.
