STUDENTS at All Hallows Catholic College are celebrating an excellent set of A-level results.

The school boasted a 100 per cent pass rate for grades A* to E with 65 per cent of all grades at A* to B.

A fifth of all grades were A*.

Top of the class were Stella White with one A8 and four A grades and Matthew McFahn with an A*, two As and a C.

Stella will be reading natural sciences at Lancaster University and Matthew is off to Oxford University to study mathematics after scoring 595 out of a possible 600 marks in his exam - a school record.

He said: “I’m really glad I’ve got the grades to go to Oxford. All Hallows has been a great place for me and I want to thank all my teachers for their support and encouragement.”

Head Boy Ben Mock excelled with three As and two Bs, while Head Girl Caitlin Shasby got three As and a B.

Ben will be reading psychology at Lancaster University and Caitlin will be reading law at Newcastle University.

Ben said: “It’s really uplifting that my hard work has paid off. I’m really looking forward to studying psychology. I’ve had a great time at All Hallows.”

Caitlin said: “I’m positively shocked, suffering from a lack of sleep and really looking to studying law at University. If I was to study at school again I would choose All Hallows.”

Paying tribute to Ben and Caitlen for the role as leader at the school Michelle Garvey, assistant Principal and head of Sixth Form, said: “These students have served All Hallows admirably in their roles of Head Boy and Girl and have set the highest possible standards for leading others and representing the college at all events.”

While most students will be staying close to home for the next stage in their education or work, some will be heading abroad.

Katie O’Gara will be studying sport psychology with soccer at Lubbock Christian University in Texas and Emily Hewland will be studying international business with tennis at the University of Tampa in Florida.

Other high flyers heading off to university include: Luke Weaver who got two A* and tow Bs and will study computer science at University of Essex; James Taylor got an A*, two A and one B; Ria Hubbard got A*, A, and two Bs.

Also celebrating were Chloe Levett-Smith who achieved A*, two Bs and a C and will now study speech therapy at Manchester Metropolitan University; William Morrissey with A, two Bs and a C who will study history and University of Sheffield; Mark Elkommos got two A8 and one A and will study computer science at Bristol University; Aidan Smith got one A* and two As and will read mathematics at the University of Warwick.

Other high flyers were Laszlo Zorenyi who got an A* and two As and will read medical engineering at Leeds University, Emily Auty will study psychology at University of Leeds after getting an A and two Bs, while Joe Harper got a hat-trick of As to be able to study chemistry at University of Bristol.

Principal Tony Billings said: “We are delighted with these results which reflect the hard work of our students and the staff. We are confident that we have provided our young people with an education in character and values, that together with their academic results, will help them live happy and fulfilling lives.”
