I AM, I must admit, baffled by the Tory selection process . Six of the truest bluest Macclesfield Conservatives trooped off to London to make the final selection of candidates for the Parliamentary seat. Why? What was wrong with making it in the constituency?

You’d expect at least one of the final six to have strong local roots yet somehow all were discarded. Macclesfield Conservatives obviously believed there wasn’t a single worthy local candidate? In fact they were so unimpressed they chose six complete outsiders. No wonder Councillor Darryl Beckford, and local treasurer Andy Lea resigned .

Coun Beckford, who applied to be a candidate but was turned down by central office, said: "I have resigned because I feel disappointed with the way things have gone."

Treasurer Mr Lea added: "There being, in my view, excessive pressurefrom central office and unfair and irregular practices to exclude local people from the process."

Doesn’t that say it all? Macclesfield residents denied any chance to elect a local candidate because Tory central feel they can fill it with whoever they choose and still win.

Absolutely no points whatsoever to Macclesfield Conservative party who showed no faith in their own members and even less courage.
