FAMILIES will have plenty of reasons to be jolly this season when Wilmslow’s light switch-on takes place later this month.

The town will be aglow with festive sparkle when the switch is flicked on November 26.

And residents are promised a fabulous programme of entertainment for all ages that will see Grove Street spring to life for the season of goodwill.

There will be music, singing and dancing in the street to ring in the festive cheer from 5pm.

The crowd will be entertained by Nick Wright of Canalside Community Radio who will be DJing at the event and the more energetic revellers can perfect their dance moves with Dance Fever students.

Alternatively, residents can enjoy Ned Yates Garden Centre mince pies and treats while listening to Ashdene Primary School choir and Lacey Green Primary School Choir.

And Father Christmas will be in the town to meet and greet the youngsters before a mystery celebrity guest flicks the switch and illuminates the shopping parade at 7pm.

The event will raise cash for The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust which provided holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Tracey Bye, spokesman for Wilmslow Business Group, said: "This should be a great family evening out for all the family and we really hope the community will turn out to support it.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed for fine weather but the show will go on whatever."

On Thursday, November 19, the Alderley Edge Action Group - formerly the Trader’s Association - is organising its annual Christmas lights switch on.

Families are invited to arrive at Somerfield parade in the village centre in good time for the programme scheduled between 6pm and 7pm.

The evening will include delicious hog roasts, sausages, mulled wine, mince pies and entertainment including the Alderley Edge Scout Band and Canalside radio.

Father Christmas will be arriving on his sleigh and the evening’s activities will culminate in the lights being switched on and a presentation to the winner of the annual school’s poster competition.
