A lifetime of work by an artist and poet is to feature in a new exhibition in the town centre.

Golda Rose, who is 94 years old, has been a creative force in the area for more than half a century.

She is to showcase her work at an exhibition called Phenomena of Growth at Jack Sevens Gallery, on Chestergate, Macclesfield, starting on Monday, October 12.

The exhibition which runs until November 9, features early figurative works, still life and landscapes through to classically inspired allegorical works, and to her most recent cycles of abstract works.

Golda said the underlying theme, idea and motivation is nature, adding: “I am more interested in nature than in people and desire to portray in paint a theology of the oneness of the natural, the human and the spirit, of the presence of the divine in the whole aspect of nature.”

Claire Louise Brown who is curating the exhibition, said: “The natural rhythms which govern our world are at the heart of a new exhibition of works by artist, sculptor and poet, Golda Rose.

“Encompassing works from 1964 up to 2011, the exhibition celebrates the life of the artist who is now in her 94th year.

“Ideas about nature are also illustrated in Golda’s poems. The presentation of the artist’s imaginative interpretations of nature, the Bible and the journey of the soul are captured beautifully in the words and images of her book of poems.”

Golda’s style was inspired after she saw an exhibition of William Blake in London in 1964.

Claire added: “Blake intended his poetry to be read, understood, and visualised with the eye of the imagination, and so Golda’s works must be read with the inward eye as she invites us to look at our inner world, the subconscious mind, the rich imagination we all have, and to ultimately look at the mystery of life as represented by the changing seasons.”

Golda, lives and works in Wilmslow.

She studied painting and sculpture at Manchester School of Art and later psychotherapy and art therapy.
