King’s School sixth form stars aced their A Levels with another bumper set of results to equal the school’s best ever results.

More than 80percent of all grades were at A* to B - the same as last year - with 18pc of all grades at A* and 44pc at A*or A.

Three students achieved four A*s or better; 10 students achieved three A*s or better, and an astonishing 43 students achieved 3 As or better.

King’s School Headmaster Dr. Simon Hyde said: “At a time when the Government is trying to make the public examination system more challenging these are exceptional results born of the students’ and teachers’ hard work, a thirst for intellectual inquiry and a strong partnership between home and school.”

Among those who excelled this year are Anja Knudsen, 18, who is going to Edinburgh to read Veterinary Science.

Laura Embrey, 18, will spend a year at The Royal Northern College of Music to play the violin before joining Clare College Cambridge to study Mathematics. Jasper Rossi, 18, is going to Downing College Cambridge to study medicine, and James Sudweeks, 18, is going to Bath to study Economics.

Victoria Tann is going to Durham to read English Literature, and national triathlon champion Rebecca Hughes, 18, is going to read Law at Trinity College Cambridge.

Ailbe Smith, 18, is heading to Imperial College London to read medicine, and national butterfly swimming silver medallist Charlotte Taylor is going to Birmingham to study Sport and Exercise Science. Jamie Edgerton is applying to Cambridge to read Natural Sciences and Jennifer Shering is going to Warwick to read Mathematics.
