CO-INCIDING with world book day, Cheshire Poet Laureate Andrew Rudd brings his year in office to a close with the launch of a new poetry collection.

One Cloud Away From The Sky is Cheshire County Council's fourth poet laureate publication and contains more than 70 original poems.

The paperback book includes commissioned pieces written during Andrew's Poet Laureate year, as well as his popular series of worm poems written to mark the Willaston International Worm Charming Festival.

Deputy leader of the county council, councillor David Rowlands said: "Andrew's year has been characterised by his engagement with people.

"Cheshire has been fortunate indeed to have such an advocate for poetry, doubly fortunate to have a fine poet."

Andrew has worked throughout the year to bring poetry to the people of Cheshire wherever they might be and has spoken at schools, village fetes, local libraries, village halls and at Youth Parliament meetings.

His poems have appeared on bookmarks, postcards, posted on trees and at one event in Macclesfield even written on bananas.

The Cheshire Poet Laureate Scheme is now in its fifth year and as well as the publication of work, it delivers a broad programme of poetry workshops.
