The annual event, which takes place on the second Sunday of July each year, is organised by the Kerridge War Memorial Committee. The parade was led by Bollington Brass Band and included representatives from the forces and cadets.

Coun Amanda Stott, Mayor of Bollington, was among those in attendance at the poignant service. She said: “It was a really well supported event, all the forces were represented, the fire service was there, and Bollington Brass Band. Everyone was beautifully turned out and all the cadets were a credit to their units.”

She added: “It was really poignant because of the significance of the year.”

The service was officiated by Rev Marion Tugwood.

Also in attendance was Macclesfield MP David Rutley and former MP Sir Nick Winterton, who read the roll of honour. This year’s commemoration included a ‘drumhead’ service, which is when a neat pile of drums are draped in a regimental flag and used as an altar.

The drumhead was historically used in the field in lieu of an alter during armed conflict.

Deryck Sutton, the parade marshal, suggested including the drumhead.

He said: “Because it’s a special year we wanted to do something a bit different. The whole event was excellent, it was a cracking day all round and there were lots and lots of people there.”
