KERRIDGE villagers remembered the men who died in the first and second world war at its annual memorial service on Sunday.

The memorial on Clarke Lane was erected in 1919 when residents formed a committee to honour the village’s dead.

Every year a parade winds through the village for a special service.

Sue Poynton joined the committee in honour of her dad Harry Gaskell, who was keen promoter of the Kerridge memorial, which bears the name of Sue’s grandmother’s first husband William Baguley, the first Kerridge man to be killed in the First World War.

Sue said: “It was very emotional but a lovely day - the service and parade were lovely, Bollington Brass Band were wonderful. The boy who played the last post was superb.”

The parade included the Bollington Air Cadets, Bollington Brass Band, the Mayor of Bollington Coun Angela Williams, Macclesfield MP David Rutley and representatives from Macclesfield and Congleton Burma Star.

This year’s parade was brought forward a week due to a clash on the calendar but the event will return to the usual date - the second Sunday in July - next year.
