THE CLOCK is ticking and readers have less than 36 hours to get their bids in and win the chance to flick the switch and illuminate Grove Street this Saturday, November 17.

The lucky winner of the silent auction will join Coronation Street star Simon Gregson on the podium at the annual event.

Also joining Simon and the mystery winner will be Simon’s former co-star and a patron of the Five Stars Scanner Appeal, Chris Bison.

Between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Saturday there will be festive fun for all the family with a raffle, prizes and entertainment.

As well as Canalside Community Radio, there will be music in the air with the tropical sounds of Lacey Green Primary School steel band and the harmonious voices of Ashdene Primary School’s choir.

While Water Lane florist Ian Lloyd creates festive floral decorations, children’s entertainer Mr Magic will be conjuring up tricks and students at Dance Fever will help put a spring in revellers steps.

The afternoon of festivities will culminate with the arrival of Father Christmas and the hit of the switch, to illuminate the Christmas lights along Grove Street.

Readers have until noon on Friday, November 16 to submit their bids for any of the three prizes in this year’s auction.

These include a team-signed Manchester United football shirt; a team-signed Manchester City football strip and a signed, framed photo of pop band Girls Aloud.

To enter the sealed bid silent auction, fill in your name, address, daytime telephone number, the items you wish to bid for and the amount on the slip printed below by this deadline.

All proceeds from the silent auction and the day will go to the Five Stars Scanner Appeal.
