A young man tragically killed after being hit by a suspected drink-driver can be named as James Edwards.
The 22-year-old was struck by an Audi as he was walked along Bramhall Moor Lane in Hazel Grove , Stockport, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Warm and moving tributes have been paid to James - also known as ‘Hodge’- across social media. He was a former Poynton High student.
Bruce Turner posted on Facebook: “One of those guys who was just genuine. And kind. So, so kind.
“A true gentleman, who had time for people. This should not have happened mate. I’m so so so sorry xxx.”
Joe Mayers said: “Had so much time and respect for the guy, can’t believe it! Will be missed by us all.”
Sally Barber Simpson said: “Beautiful lad inside and out will be greatly missed x”
Whilst others took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness.
Edward said: “My prayers to you and your family - RIP Hodge x”
Whilst Meg said: “Such a sad day, rip Hodge xx”
The accident happened just after 4am. Mr Edwards was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.
Soon after police traced a black Audi A5, believed to have been involved in the crash.
A man, aged 29, and a woman, aged 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The man was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. Both remain in custody for questioning.
The road remained taped off for several hours whilst police dealt with the aftermath and carried out enquiries.
Police are still appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the collision, to come forward as soon as possible.
Sergeant Paul Higgins, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is an absolute tragedy. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the man’s family. I can’t imagine what they must be going through.
“We have made two arrests however our investigation is still in its early stages. I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident, or may have dash-cam footage to get in touch.”
