A father who kicked, punched and headbutted his wife while their baby was in the room has walked free from court.

Tarik Saleem, 27, of Moor Lane, Wilmslow – managing director of a family firm – returned home from work on June 17.

Paul Davies, prosecuting, told Macclesfield magistrates he found his wife with the baby on her lap and they started arguing.

At police interview he said his wife, Shamander, started having a go at him.

Saleem put the baby on the bed and began to punch and kick her on the floor.

He slapped her across the face and head-butted her.

Saleem pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

The court heard that a restraining order had been cancelled at his wife’s request.

Defending, Louise Straw, told the court: “The defendant fully acknowledges his responsibility in this matter and is extremely remorseful.”

He was sentenced to a 24-month community order with supervision and a domestic violence course.
