Police are still hunting a rapist who struck in Macclesfield town centre nine months ago.

Despite CCTV images of the suspected rapist and witnesses, plus an influx of leads following an exclusive appeal in the Express, the man is still out there.

DS Paul Basford said: “We have been working on this case for several months following a number of leads given to us by the public, which we are very grateful for.

“We have yet to track down this individual and as time passes the victim in the case is keen to put this traumatic ordeal behind her and move on with her life rather than be reminded of the past.

“As with such sensitive cases we will continue to work with the victim to support her and will always look into fresh information that comes to our attention.

“We would like to reassure the community that there have been no further reports of stranger rapes in the Macclesfield area.”

The attack took place at about 1am on Saturday, June 4, in the underpass on Park Lane, which runs under Churchill Way.

The victim was approached by the offender on Mill Street and he continued to walk with her despite her dismissing his advances.

He followed as she entered the underpass and attacked her.

CCTV released at the time showed the suspect and two witnesses, a man and a woman.

The suspect was white, about 5ft 6in and stocky. He had very short dark hair and was wearing dark trousers and a dark t-shirt,  possibly purple and black with  a heavy metal design on it. He also had a pierced ear.
