More than 100 horses will parade through Wilmslow and Alderley Edge in a huge fundraiser for The Christie.

Horse-lover Heather O’Neill, 43, will  be leading the parade with her mum Maureen Gardiner, 68, who is having  radiotherapy at the specialist hospital for lung cancer.

Heather, of Lancaster Road, Wilmslow, said: “I don’t think you can speak to many people these days who haven’t been touched by cancer and the work Christie’s does – it’s fantastic.

“Without them my mum wouldn’t be here. I just thought it was time to give something back.”

Grandmother-of-one Heather, who is a foster carer, added: It would be absolutely fabulous if people could come out and support us – I just hope the weather is kind.”

Heather has teamed up with animal-loving millionaire Selwyn Demmy to  organise the huge sponsored ride, which will see horses, ponies, walkers and even dogs making the five- mile trip around the town and village centres.

The horse ride will leave from the Boddington and Dragon Pub, on Altrincham Road, Wilmlsow, on Saturday, April 9, at 11am.
