The community has rallied to help a family who lost everything when fire wrecked their home.

Widow Debi Burrow, 48, lost all her possessions, along with treasured mementos of her husband, David, when a blaze gutted the home they refurbished together before he died from cancer aged only 57, just days before Christmas.

The mum of three and her youngest daughter, Pia, 16, whose GCSE coursework also went up in smoke, were left with nothing but the clothes they were wearing after the huge blaze on January 28.

Debi had lived at the house on Harvest Road, Tythering-ton, for 17 years and it was the only home Pia had known.

But after their heartbreaking story appeared in the Express friends, colleagues and businesses came forward to help with furniture, food, clothes – and even a house.

Debi says she has been ‘humbled’ by the help offered.

"I can’t thank everyone enough for their kindness. Even strangers have even offered to help after seeing the article about the fire. I am very humbled." Now Debi and Pia have a new bungalow to live in, thanks to family friend Jan Garsden, 55, and her husband, who have just finished building it on their land at Bonny Catty Farm, Macclesfield.

Businesses have offered goods and furniture to help them settle in to their temporary home.

Jan, who kitted out the bungalow as a surprise for Debi at the weekend while she visited her mother, said: "They have been given furniture by family firm Arighi Bianchi and Harveys furniture store, trolleys full of electrical goods, kitchen equipment, food and toiletries from Marks and Spencer and Tesco, a chest of drawers from Hart-Woods of Macclesfield and more than £500 worth of clothing from Bank fashion and JD Sport in Macclesfield.

"Everyone has been so kind and have just offered all this help and support. It’s great to see everyone pull together like this.

The family have been through so much and we wanted to make all this as easy as possible for them."

Thoughtful colleagues at Freedom Finance, in Wilmslow, where Debi works as a personal assistant, have also raised money to help her buy bedding, curtains and a television to go in the bungalow, while her boss, Rupert Webb, has paid for a holiday to Majorca for her and Pia.

Debi, who survived breast cancer eight years ago, said: "I am so grateful to everyone for all their help and support.

"I couldn't have got through this without them."
