Hollins View campaigners have said they will not give up their fight for the care home after a decision to close it was upheld.

Councillors on the health and adult social care scrutiny committee backed an earlier decision to close the respite care centre at the end of the year after the Labour group asked for the decision to be reviewed.

Respite care would instead be provided by the independent sector, including private care homes.

But Labour councillors and campaigners have said their fight does not stop there. They are looking at options for challenging the decision again.

Coun Laura Jeuda, who has been fighting the plans, said: “We are deciding our next move but will not give up.

“It was a political decision and I don’t think due process was followed. There was insufficient evidence for the scrutiny committee to make the decision.

“They can’t prove how they will save the £1.3m they propose by closing the centre and there was no consultation like was promised.

“We would very much welcome comments from people using the service.

“Hollins View is a lifeline to so many people.”
