A hit-and-run driver knocked a cyclist off her bike in broad daylight and then drove off without stopping.

It happened at the Sainsbury's roundabout in Macclesfield at 1.30pm today.

Police want to speak to the driver of a new model black Vauxhall Corsa seen driving away on Westminster Road.

The cyclist, a woman in her mid-20s, was badly shaken and suffered bruising to her hip and lower back and taken to Macclesfield hospital.

Sgt Andy Gardner said: "An experienced cyclist was on Cumberland Road approaching the roundabout from the direction of the hospital. We believe the driver of the Corsa was travelling in the same direction but has taken a sudden left down Westminster Road and clipped her. She was knocked to the ground and injured. The car did not stop or return to the scene of the accident."
