Girls from King’s school swapped blazers for gardening gear to take part in a tidy-up for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Eight girls from the school got busy with litter pickers and bags for the tidy-up which is part of a nationwide Clean for the Queen project to mark the Queen’s birthday celebrations on April 21.
They cleaned up around the school’s Fence Avenue site before going on to Victoria Park across the road.
Eloise Webster, 11, from Macclesfield, said: “The Queen wants a clean, litter free country and we want to make her birthday wish come true.”
The event was organised by Lynne Adams, King’s School charities coordinator.
She said: “King’s has a long association with the monarchy having been named in honour of King Edward VI in 1552 and one of our proudest days was the visit of Queen Elizabeth in May 2002.
“The event was designed to thank the Queen and encourage in her honour the younger generation to take responsibility for their environment and instil the values of service, community and participation which she so wonderfully has demonstrated all her life.”
