THEY were born to be wild, and get their motors runnin' on the highway.

So the people of Poynton were gobsmacked when Poynton's very own Hells Angels took to the streets... armed with bags of cuddly teddies.

Over 25 burly bikers from the village rode their dream machines to the rescue of deprived children from across the North West.

For members of Poynton Motorcycle Club were joining hundreds of fellow bikers on a mission to nearby Manchester, for the annual Salvation Army toy-run.

Harley Davidsons, Triumphs and other assorted cycles laden with toys left quiet Poynton behind for the mission to Salvation Army headquarters.

After a quick pit-stop in Stockport, they forged an alliance on the motorway with a sea of over 700 other cyclists from clubs across the North West, to have a police escort into Manchester.

Phil Cuffright, of Poynton Motorcycle Club said: "The day was fantastic, This is the second year we have taken part, and it is always a great event."

He added: "It was funny when we got to the Salvation Army headquarters to donate the toys.

"The band was playing carols and in walk hundreds of massive bikers dressed in the full regalia and carrying cuddly toys. It really was a sight to be seen."

The day was rounded off at the grand finale at the Trafford Centre where the bikers joined hundreds of children in a carol singing service.

The event raised £4,900 for children under the care of the Salvation Army, and 1,200 toys were donated, which will be distributed to needy families at Christmas time.
