FROM tears of despair to smiles of joy, Sheila Tristram has come a long way in the four months since it was announced her home was to be bulldozed.

In early July, housing landlord Cheshire Peaks and Plains earmarked Honford Court in Handforth for the wrecking ball leaving its 18 residents uncertain about their future.

Mum-of-two Sheila, 72, who has lived in the block of flats for eight years, was very upset when the Express talked to her earlier in the summer.

She said: "I cried when I found out and it’s left me wondering what’s going to happen to me."

Fastforward to November and things are first class for the former Mobberley post mistress who has been given her one wish of staying in her beloved Handforth.

She said: "I am very happy to be staying in Handforth. That’s what I wanted. I love Handforth, the people are lovely. If all residents receive the same treatment that I did then the story will have a happy end for everyone."

Each of the 18 residents, as reported at the time by the Express is receiving £6,000 to help them move and the full-time help of relocation co-ordinator Dawn Coates.

She said: "It is a pleasure to work with these customers. They are so appreciative of the trust’s relocation service and to see them happy and settled in their new home gives complete satisfaction and makes the whole process worthwhile."

Sheila Tristram is now bedded in to her fully redecorated flat and the other Honford Court residents will follow shortly.
