The children met Yates after his blind owner, Pat Powell, was invited to accept a donation on behalf of the Guide Dogs charity from Space4Autism.

Space4Autism is a support group that helps people affected by the condition.

It donated £250 to Pat, who is co-ordinator for Guide Dogs Cheshire East division, at its  headquarters on Lowe Street, Macclesfield.

Poynton-based Cheryl Simpson, Space4Autism’s secretary and trustee, said: “All the children asked Pam lots of questions about what it is like to be blind and they loved seeing Yates.”

The money was raised through a charity night held by one of the Macclesfield based charities supporters.

Cheryl added: “A good friend of ours, Jo Hough, was asked by the owners of The Yard in Alderley Edge if she would like to do a pop up restaurant to raise money for a charity.

“Jo jumped at the chance and choose to do the event for Space4Autism and also give a percentage to Guide Dogs for the Blind.

“ There was an auction with prizes donated from The Tytherington Club, and friends of Space4Autism also helped out with the arrival champagne, crockery and cutlery.

“Space4Autism would like to thank everyone involved in making the night a great success and raising £1,000.”

Space4Autism holds monthly meetings at its headquarters on the third Monday of every month and have a varied program of speakers and focused discussions - with some fun thrown in for good measure.
