A loving grandad used his grandaughter Mia as his muse to help him walk away with a hat-full of awards at a local photography exhibition.

Like many other of its members, retiree Paul Scott entered several images in to Macclesfield Camera Club’s annual show at the town’s Library.

However, Paul, of Newton Street, Macclesfield, was delighted to walk away with four trophies for his efforts, two of which were given for portraits of his granddaughter Mia.

The 58-year-old worked for AstraZeneca for 35 years as an instrument technician before taking early retirement a few years ago.

And as part of a long service award from the science firm he was given a Nikon DSLR camera, and since then he has pursued photography as a hobby and passion ever since.

And now he is celebrating after collecting the trophies in his inaugural season as a camera club member.

Paul said: “I love to shoot landscapes and seascapes but enjoy trying my hand at other types of photography including portraiture. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the club this year.

“I was amazed to collect four trophies particularly as I know the standard is so high within the club.

“I must say that in picking up the portrait awards in both print and digital slide sections, I had a helping hand from my favourite subject, which is my pretty little granddaughter Mia.”

Camera club's annual exhibition will ask public to choose trophy winner

Macclesfield Camera Club’s Annual Exhibition is still on show at Macclesfield Central Library, on Jordangate, until Friday.

In a new scheme this year the club is giving visitors the chance to choose their favourite image by one of its photographers.

The entry that gets the most votes will then be awarded the President’s Trophy.

Stephen Coyne, the club’s vice president, said: “For the very first time this year, the club’s President’s Trophy is going to be awarded to the best print on display as judged by the general public.

“So go along and have your say on the exhibition and help choose a worthy winner.

“While there you can also see Paul’s pictures, and why the judge liked them so much.”
