Planting has been done at Alderley Edge Cemetery as part of continued improvement work.

Parish councillors were fuming about the state of the cemetery on Chelford Road which includes gravestones toppled years ago over health and safety fears.

They eventually agreed improvements with Cheshire East, which has included replacing fence posts and footpath repairs. Now they have paid £385 for border planting.

Coun Duncan Herald, said:  “If a cemetery is tidy and well maintained, it shows respect for the departed and consideration for visitors.

“The parish council picked up complaints and has been working to get improvements and repairs done.”

Five people have now come forward to set up a friends group for the cemetery.

Coun Herald is trying to set up its first meeting.

If you are interested in joining the group, contact the parish council on 01625 582400.
