A burglar that was once dubbed one of England’s ‘most wanted’ offenders is beginning a long stretch behind bars after carrying out two break ins in Mottram St Andrew.

Peter Sonny Martin O’Halloran, 40, was jailed for six years at a hearing at Chester Crown Court on after admitting to two burglaries in the village in November last year.

O’Halloran, of Branford Road, Ipswich, had previously been sentenced to eight years imprisonment at Gloucester Crown Court in 2009 after pleading guilty to nine counts of burglary.

During that hearing he also admitted to a further 38 burglaries across the UK which were taken into consideration when he was sentenced.

At the time he had being the subject of a nationwide manhunt by a number of police forces, and was also named on the national Crimestoppers Most Wanted website and featured on BBC’s Crimewatch.

After the sentencing, investigating officer DC Dale Hawtin, of Macclesfield CID, said: “Our colleagues in the south east say O’Halloran is one of their most prolific burglary offenders, so it is pleasing to see he will no longer be a threat to society for several years.”
