FOLK artists from near and far will perform at a new festival this summer.
Organisers are excited to announce the first Macclesfield Gateway Folk Festival – from Thursday, June 18 to Saturday, June 19, in St Michaels Church – which they say will attract some of the best performers on the folk circuit.
There will be three headline acts over three nights as well as a full day of activities on the Saturday featuring dancing, stalls, food and drink.
The festival is the latest event by Brad Snelling, who is artistic director of WinterFest and runs Dead Good Day Out.
Brad said: “This is a great opportunity for another community event in the centre of town. Many of the participants will be locals, adults and children alike. If there is anyone out there who would like to take part or help out, we’d love to hear from you.”
Brad is in talks with John Hartshorn of Macclesfield Community Artspace which is running a pop up parade on the same weekend to plug the gap left by the Barnaby Parade which is not taking place this year.
John said: “After five years of parading at Barnaby, Macclesfield people have become enthusiastic about parading and so the pop up parade is designed to fill the gap. To have the pop up parade at the same time as the Folk Festival is a fantastic idea.”
Tickets go on sale at the end of February when the line-up will be announced.
