More than 500 people across town took part in The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise thousands for Macmillan Cancer Support.

About 100 coffee mornings were held throughout Macclesfield last Friday.

The Express is supporting the charity in its centenary – and organisers hope to have hit a target of £20,000 in Macclesfield. Sarah Page, Macmillan’s fundraising manager in Macclesfield, said "The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was a fantastic success.

"I would like say a huge thank you to everyone who took part. Once again the people of Macclesfield got behind us whole-heartedly, helping us raise thousands of pounds to fund our services.

"We were out and about on the day and got to visit 21 coffee mornings across East Cheshire.

"We got to meet some of our fantastic coffee morning hosts across Macclesfield. We visited The Art Yard where they had a Mad Hatters Tea Party, several coffee mornings in Macclesfield District General. We also attended coffee mornings at Broken Cross Primary School and Whirley Primary School.

"We rely almost entirely on donations, and without all the hard work from our coffee morning hosts and goodwill from those who go along to their events, we wouldn’t be able to keep offering the fantastic services that so many people rely on."

The money raised will be used to fund Macmillan’s vital cancer services including specialist nurses, a nurse-run support line and financial advice and support for cancer patients.
