IT'S a safe bet that Shirley Rimmer will pick up one of the racing industry's top Oscars later this month.

She is odd's on favourite in the manager of the year stakes and is heading for the winners enclosure at the championships later this month.

Shirley, 36, manager of Stanley Racing in Alderley Edge, joins the line up with five others competing for the prestigious Manager of the Year 200 title.

The competition is run annually by the Racing Post to find the best in the betting business and Shirley has beaten more than 2,000 nominations to get to the final six.

She was tipped by her customers at the London Road betting shop who jumped at the chance to put forward her nomination for the national prize.

And she galloped well ahead of the field when she was visited by judges incognito.

"She proved herself to be a real winner," said Stanley Racing spokesman Chris Mulcahy.

"It is a great achievement as over 2000 nominations were made for betting shop managers around the country.

"Shirley was selected to a short list of 20 managers and will now attend for interviews in London before the awards are announced at a ceremony to be held in London."

Shirley, a mum of one who lives in Marple, has already claimed winnings of £1000 and her company will hand over the keys of a brand new car if she is selected as the overall winner.

She has worked for Stanley Racing for nine years and has been boss of the Alderley Edge shop since its relocation two years ago.
