A young boy had to be rescued by firefighters on Sunday after he got stuck in a tree. The boy, believed to be about seven or eight years old, had been fishing in the river near to Tesco on Hibel Road.

White Watch manager Paul Janion said: "We were called out to assist a trapped child at about 5.10pm yesterday.

"He'd gone fishing and he tried to get out of the river bank, he climbed a tree and got stuck.

"He got himself up there and just got frightened."

The boy was heard calling for help by staff working in the Tesco petrol station at about 5pm.

He added: "(Tesco staff) could hear him shouting for help from the petrol station and they did the right thing and called us.

"It was very easy, we put a ladder up and carried him down."
