A family’s desperate search for a new home has become critical with just two days until they are evicted.

Stuart and Debbie Parkinson appealed for help in the Express last week after their landlord announced he was selling the property on Wiltshire Close in Upton Priory and issued them with an eviction notice.

But the family of 10 have not still not found a place big enough and face being made homeless on Thursday, April 24.

Debbie, 40, who is a full time mum and carer for her disabled daughter, said: “They have been and put up a for sale sign outside the house today and it’s heartbreaking because I don’t know where we are going to go. We will have no choice but to turn up at the town hall and plead for them to help us. It’s just frustrating because my husband works hard to support us and we can pay our rent, we just can’t find anywhere willing to give us a chance.

“Our previous landlords have offered to write references and we’ve found a few four bed properties, but landlords don’t seem to want to know us, which is really frustrating.”

Debbie says she has been going online every half and hour to see what new properties are available, but Philip Chadwick, lettings director at Gascoigne Halman, said they are fighting a losing battle in the current rental market.

He said: “There are some properties that could accommodate 10 people but they are few and far between, and you pay a higher price.

“It’s economics, landlords are going to get more out of renting two/three bedroom properties than bigger houses, and even then they will prefer to have a family of four move in than a family of 10 because of the increased wear and tear.”
