The former assistant manager of Macclesfield Town FC has been allowed to keep his driving licence after he was caught speeding twice.

Efe Sodje, 43, was caught driving above the limit on the A538 Manchester Road on March 10.

However, the former defender who played for the Silkmen and his native Nigeria, was caught again speeding in an Audi on the M1 in Bedfordshire on April 23.

At Macclesfield magistrates’ court, Sodje, of Belmont Road, Cheadle, admitted both speeding offences. He was fined £70 and was given six points on his licence.

However, the points triggered an automatic ban under the totting rules.

Sodje successfully avoided the ban, claiming it would cause exceptional hardship.

The 6ft 4in player started his career at Stevenage before making the move to Macclesfield, where he played 83 times.

He later returned to the club as assistant manager to John Askey.

Sodje declined to comment when contacted by the Express.
