A ‘dazed and confused’ drug driver was caught twice in two months, a court heard.

Max Alastair Griffiths, 22, was pulled over by police on May 7 for driving too slowly, Macclesfield magistrates’ court was told.

However, on June 27 the defendant was caught driving under the influence of drugs again, prosecutors said. Griffiths, of Curzon Road, Poynton, admitted drug driving and was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £230.

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said: “At 11.50pm police on Park Green Road saw a car travelling very slowly and swerving in the road. After it turned down Craig Road the officer pulled it over. He could smell cannabis and described the defendant as dazed and confused.”

At a hearing in the same court on August 4 Griffiths, a labourer, admitted drug driving and was banned for 12 months.

Crayling Smith, defending, said: “He has been foolish. He was Chrons disease and has been self-medicating.”

Sentencing, chairman of the bench Christopher Anderton, said: “The fact you have committed the same offence twice illustrates crass stupidity. Your medical condition is no excuse.”
