A POLISH kitchen-hand who was chased by witnesses after drunkenly colliding with two parked cars, has been banned for 30 months.

When Boguslaw Krzystof Orlowski, 53, who had got drunk on vodka while sitting in his car during a shift, was eventually stopped, one of his front wheels was hanging off, Macclesfield magistrates were told.

Orlowski, of Mill Street, Macclesfield, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and two counts of failing to stop after being involved in a road accident, and was sentenced on Monday (January 10).

The court heard how the Pole, who works at Mottram Hall, drank before and during his shift on December 18, following a row with his wife about returning home to Poland.

Graham Gertson, prosecuting, said Orlowski’s Vauxhall Astra caused minor damage to a parked van while leaving the hall car park shortly after noon, before driving on the wrong side of Wilmslow Road, where he collided with an oncoming car.

"Again the defendant’s vehicle failed to stop and attempted to continue with its journey," said Mr Gertson.

"The tyre from the defendant’s front offside wheel had come off the rim and the rim was gauging into the tarmac.

"A number of people pursued the vehicle until eventually it had to come to a stop. Witnesses took the keys from the defendant...pending the arrival of police."

A police breath test revealed he was more than three and a half times the legal drink drive limit.

Ruth Oakes, defending, said Orlowski was of previous good character but admitted drinking before and during his shift, after arguing with his wife.

"He realised while at work that he hadn’t taken his medication and panicked because he had been warned this put him at risk of a stroke. Nobody suffered any injuries," she said.

Chairman of the Bench James Donohue said his breath test reading was "very high". Orlowski was banned from driving for 30 months and sentenced to a 12 month community punishment with 250 hours unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £105 court costs.
