Organisers of the town’s first-ever short film festival have extended the deadline for entries.

SilkFest Independent Film Festival aims to gives local actors, writers and directors the opportunity to showcase their talent.

It is running a competition to find the 12 best short films which will all be screened at a special event at Macclesfield town hall on Saturday August 13.

The overall winner will be decided on the night.

Each film has to be original seven-minute film, inspired by the theme: home, and must be submitted by 11.59pm on July 31.

The festival has been organised by film-lover Laura Genders, who lives in the town centre.

She said: “The entries we have had so far illustrate how much talent there is in Macclesfield and in the North West. We would like more people to give it a go and try and make their own film.

“If there’s one thing Barnaby has shown is that there is amazing creative talent out there. We want to see that talent enter the festival.”

Tickets are now on sale for a gala, black-tie event priced at £15 each from www.silkfest.co.uk .

The festival is in aid of Echoes, the childhood bereavement service at East Cheshire Hospice.
