The funeral of Cheshire East councillor Philip Hoyland will take place on Tuesday, March 31.

Coun Hoyland, who represented Poynton West and Adlington since May 2011, died suddenly last Wednesday at the age of 60.

He was a leading member of Macclesfield’s Conservative Party, and after his death a number of figures around the town aid tribute to him.

A service and committal will take place at 2pm at Macclesfield Crematorium, followed by a service in celebration of his life at St George’s Church in Poynton at 3pm. The service at St George’s will be followed by a reception at the town’s Royal British Legion.

A spokesman for the family said all are welcome to attend both or either service.

In a statement released shortly after Coun Hoyland’s death, his family, which includes his wife Jane, two daughters and a stepson, paid tribute to the ‘true friend and much-loved family man’ and thanked people for the support they had received.

“Jane and the family are stunned and shocked by the sudden loss of Phil but are grateful for the many, many kind gestures, wishes and offers of support they have received,” said a spokesman for the family.

“They have no words to express how much they appreciate the overwhelming response that has been shown by colleagues and friends far and wide.

“It is undoubtedly a testament to Phil who was a gentleman, a true friend and a much-loved family man.”

Mr Hoyland, of Charlecote Road, Poynton, served as chairman of the Children and Families Policy Development Group in 2012-13.

Also paying tribute after the news, Macclesfield MP David Rutley described Mr Hoyland’s death as a ‘huge loss’.
