An expectant dad was told to be more ‘sensible’ by magistrates after he was fined for possessing drugs.

Wesley Dixon, 26, was stopped in the streets by a policeman at 5.20am on July 13. He was searched after becoming agitated and ‘reluctant’ to remain with the investigating officer, a court heard.

During that search the constable found a draw string bag containing packets of the illicit substances.

Dixon, of Peel Street, Macclesfield, pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs at a hearing at Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (August 20).

Kate Marchuk, prosecuting, told the court that the officer had found Dixon after being sent to Chester Road to investigate criminal behaviour.

She said: “He saw the defendant who matched the description of the man he was looking for.

“He carried out a search and found two sealed bags of clear, white powder and another with green vegetable matter which he identified as cannabis.

“Dixon admitted the drugs were his and said they were just for personal use. He made a full admission.”

Trevor Feehily, defending, said that unemployed Dixon was an occasional user who realised it was time to stop.

He said: “He is an occasional user who does not have an addiction or any long-standing problems of that nature. His partner is expecting her first child, he recognises it’s time to put his bad habits behind him.”

Dixon was fined £70 and ordered to pay £85 costs. Speaking after the sentencing Peter Nash, chairman of the bench, said: “We hope that you take the advice and will be more sensible on your way forward.”
