A man is accused of stabbing 62-year-old Alan Edward Fawcett to death at Tegsnose Farm a week ago today.

Father-of-three Malcolm Gaskell is pictured being led away to a police van and into custody after a five-minute hearing at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court last Friday charged with murder and grievous bodily harm against his wife, Susan.

He was arrested at the isolated farmhouse on Broadcar Road in the sprawling Tegg's Nose country park shortly after 4.15am on Wednesday, November 19.

Mr Fawcett - who was a tenant in a flat within the grounds of the main farmhouse - was found by police unconscious, lying in a pool of blood and suffering from fatal knife wounds to his lower back. He died at the scene.

Gaskell, 59, who worked as a light goods driver for James Irlam of Chelford, sobbed throughout last week's court proceedings. His eldest daughter wept in the public galley.

Bespectacled Gaskell, who was dressed in a suit with an open neck white shirt, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

Before he was taken back to the cells by the officers, he blew a kiss and repeatedly mouthed "I love you" through the glass panel to his daughter.

Yesterday his home on Lanark Walk. Upton Priory lay empty and all of the curtains were closed.

Susan Gaskell was also stabbed during the dawn attack and was said to be "improving" at Macclesfield Hospital.

Mr Fawcett's daughter Nicola Jones, who lives in Macclesfield, was too upset to talk about her father but issued a death notice to be published in the Express today acknowledged also by Adrian and Darren.

Included was a favourite quote from her father: "Everything comes to him who goes after what the other fellow's waiting for."
