A court order has been served after travellers moved in on Congleton Road playing fields.

Six caravans arrived on the council owned fields, close to the Rising Sun pub, earlier this week.

One of the travellers John Jones, 27, told the Express they intended to stay for around a week.

He said: "There is a court order in so we should get a week here, then we'll move on. This is what we do.

"If we weren't here, we'd be on some other field.

"We've kept to the edges so everyone can still play their football."

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: "The Gypsies moved onto the playing fields on Congleton Road late on Wednesday afternoon.

"We have carried out all the necessary checks and we are progressing the matter with the courts to repossess the land and move the Gypsies on."

But local councillor Damien Druce said more transit sites were needed in the borough so stop the incident being repeated.
