Describing her whirlwind romance, Audrey said: “It was just how it was in those days, it was a wonderful time.

“We didn’t have a honeymoon as such, but we had a motorbike ride to Blackpool and stayed in a caravan there.”

The couple, who had a love for cycling, moved to Macclesfield in 1967 where their youngest of three children, Lynn was born.

Former electrician Stanley’s and Audrey’s middle child now lives in the USA and Lynn has emigrated to New Zealand.

This has given Stan and Audrey a chance to broaden their horizons.

Former cleaner Audrey said: “We’ve had a good life, we’ve been able to go to Singapore, visited our children in new countries and travelled the country in a motor caravan.

“We can’t keep ourselves busy like we used to, but we enjoygoing to Langley Methodist Church to visit our friends.”

With divorce rates at an all time high, the couple has a few top tips for a marriage that can hold up to the test of time.

Offering her secret on a long marriage, Audrey, 81, said: “You definitely need a good sense of humour. Of course we’ve had bumps along the way, but we’ve managed to get through them, and we’ve always kept ourselves happy.”

Their oldest daughter Valerie Thompson, 59, treated her parents to a weekend in Llandudno to celebrate the anniversary.
