Council chiefs have launched an investigation into a caravan park over a claim that it is  breaching planning rules.

The probe into Eastwood End Caravan Park is Adlington involves caravans being used as individual owners’ sole or main residence.

The caravan park’s owner, Lisa Firbank, has denied any wrongdoing and said she is working with Cheshire East Council.

She said: “The council has spoken to me about the allegations, which are completely unfounded, and officers are welcome to visit the site.”

Caravans on recreational sites can only be used for holiday purposes and not as a sole or main residence.

Concerns about the site were raise by an anonymous member of the public.

It is the second time allegations at the site have been investigated by the council.

The site has been used for camping since 1924 and for caravaning since the 1960s. Coun Don Stockton, Cheshire East Council cabinet member in charge of housing, planning, economic development and regeneration, said: “We have received non-specific allegations in the past regarding residential use, which we have investigated fully by visiting the site, speaking to the owner and serving formal notices on the caravan site owner and some of the caravan owners.

“However, these investigations were inconclusive and, in the absence of any further evidence, we had no basis to demonstrate a breach of planning control.

“We have now received a recent anonymous complaint alleging that a small number of caravans are in residential use and may also be the individual owners’ sole or main residence. This allegation is currently being investigated.

“Unfortunately, the information provided to us is very limited. We therefore appeal to that anonymous person to contact Debbie Kirk, in the council’s planning enforcement team on 0300 123 5014 or by email at planning.enforcement@cheshireeast.gov.uk,  as they may have important information that would assist the council in its investigation.”
