A council road sweeper suffered leg injuries after his vehicle rolled on top of him.

The 47-year-old Cheshire East council employee was airlifted to hospital after the accident on Moss Brow, Bollington, this morning.

It is understood he was sweeping debris behind the vehicle at 10.45am when it overturned trapping his legs against a wall.

A passerby called the emergency services.

The North West Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle and ambulance.

Fire crews from Wilmslow, Bollington and Macclesfield helped release the man who was flown to Wythenshawe hospital by the North West Air Ambulance.

The victim is understood to have suffered crush injuries to his leg and bruising.

The accident happened at 10.45am today.

The council worker lives in Crewe.

The accident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive by Cheshire East council.
