Soap celebrities will mingle with football stars at a glitzy auction and dinner to raise funds for an animal charity.

Coronation Street actress Betty Driver, patron of Animal Support Volunteers, will host the glamorous evening at Morley Green Club, on Saturday, May 22.

She will be joined by fellow Corrie actor Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald and footie legend Mike Summerbee.

Last year, more than £3,000 was raised and organiser Diane Walker says she hopes to beat that target this year.

She said: "We are desperate for ASV to move forward and become registered with the Charities Commission. I hope this event and others planned will boost our funds enough for our third attempt to be successful ."

Wilmslow Express columnist and ASV president, Vic Barlow, will co-host the event, as well as entertaining guests with one of his after dinner speeches.

Due to popular demand, singer Paul Michaels who, with partner Sarah has also become an ASV supporter, will entertain once again after he had revellers dancing until midnight last year.

This year, Betty Driver will also be celebrating her 90th birthday two days before the dinner, so a special welcome is planned.

The evening will start with a pink champagne reception at 7.30pm, three course meal with half a bottle of wine per person.

There will be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and friends of ASV.

This is followed by a summary of the year, by chairman Tony Walker and founder Tregony Jane Windsor, before guests are invited to bid for auction items.

All tickets are priced at £35 each, or buy a table of eight and get one free.
